The Story of Annings
_
We adore brands that are doing things differently and we fell in love with Annings for that very reason. When discovering this beautiful soap maker, we were surprised to hear that every year millions of tonnes of seashells are discarded by the fishing industry. Rather than see these unloved seashells go to waste, Anning's decided to up-cycle them into an eco-friendly material that forms the basis of their distinctive soap.
The team collect seashells from sustainable British scallop fisheries and process them using a unique method — to harness their naturally restorative properties. This process helps to create a soap that is longer lasting, great for your skin and helps the environment!
Handcrafted in Dorset, naturally
Nestled in the rolling hills of Dorset's Jurassic Coast, Annings is a family run artisan soap maker that uses a traditional cold production process. They spent years in their soap parlour tinkering with natural ingredients to create skin loving soaps that blend seashells, herbs and essential oils.
They take a simple and honest approach to life and craft their soap in much the same way. Annings soaps are handmade with care and pride in small batches. Each ingredient is selected to nourish, replenish and for their divine floral and earthy fragrances.
Their traditional skincare remedies are natural and cruelty free. They contain NO ‘nasties’ such as artificial or synthetic ingredients, plastic, palm oil, parabens, triclosan, phthalates or sls.
Founded for the sea
Annings wanted to create a soap that could be used everyday. One that cleanses and replenishes. A soap they would be proud to tell friends and family about. Using resources sparingly and recycle endlessly — to heal, not harm the earth and its oceans.
When the family began work on Annings in 2014 they were dismayed by the amount of waste that was choking our oceans. They decided to take action by upcycling discarded seashells to combat microplastics. Today they still maintain this ethos by waging war on plastic consumption. Annings soap and packaging — including the postal packaging — is free from plastic.
